Emotional problems in type 1 diabetes

According to published research, as many as 30% of young people with type 1 diabetes will develop a mood or anxiety disorder while growing up, and a similar proportion of parents/caregivers will report clinically significant distress. However, the true scale of the problem remains unknown.

Diabetes LEAP (Longitudinal study of Emotional problems in Adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their Parents) was designed to study the psychosocial aspects of type 1 diabetes in the form of an ongoing prospective cohort study of 650 adolescents with type 1 diabetes aged 12-18 years.

This study is a project of the Center of Research on Psychological and Somatic disorders (CoRPS) at Tilburg University (Dr Giesje Nefs), in which Diabeter participates and which is supported by a grant from DiabetesFonds.
