Introduction

The three pillars of Diabeter’s research

Type 1 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease. Our research aims to dissect this heterogeneity in order to develop the best personal prediction, personal prevention and personal treatment. In this short video, Dr Dick Mul provides a quick guide to some of Diabeter’s clinical research activities and priorities with some major projects of our research:

  • Improvement of care & Outcomes: Analysing patient outcome data to identify ways to improve the management of type 1 diabetes. We study outcomes, new technologies and new therapeutics.

  • Precison prediction & precision medicine: Investigating biomarkers and techniques that identify patients at risk for specific disease features to allow timely adaptation of therapy.

  • Psychosocial aspects: Assessing the psychological impact of type 1 diabetes in patients and parents/carers.

As Dr Mul explains in the video below, the ultimate aim is to translate study findings into real improvements in clinical practice, and optimise the care of all patients.
